The Southeast Iowa Superconference soccer tournament began Friday night with the quarterfinal round, pitting the Columbus Wildcats against Mediapolis and Iowa Mennonite School against Highland.
The third seeded Wildcats were upset in their tournament opener by the six seed Bulldogs 2-1. Mediapolis got goals from Shawn Yaley and Carter Konecne. With the win Mediapolis moves on to Saturday’s semifinal round in Columbus Junction at 5-8 on the year, the Wildcats fall to 6-6.
In the nightcap in Kalona, IMS rolled through Highland 8-0. IMS held a 3-0 lead at the break and put things away in the second half. Cole Ours led the IMS offense with a pair of goals, Drew Blauvelt, Jacob Boller, Louis Etienne, Gerardo Medonza, Gedeon Sangare and Tyler Swantz each had one for IMS. IMS will be back in action Saturday in the Superconference semfinals against Central Lee. The tournament championship match would be played Saturday evening in Columbus Junction.
