Libraries rock is the theme this year and registration is open for the summer reading program at the Washington Public Library.
There are programs available for all ages from infants to adults. Librarian Jenisa Harris explains why it is important for youth to be reading during their summer vacation away from school, “It’s kind of scary how fast their reading level can decline over a couple of months. They can actually lose one to two levels of reading level in just the short time of the summer. So summer reading is a really fun way to keep them engaged, keep them reading. And who doesn’t love to win prizes?” Different grade levels have different reading goals whether it be the number of books or minutes read. Logs will be kept and then those can be turned in to qualify for prizes.
In addition, the library will host a variety of events, including family events each Tuesday in June. June 5th is the Blank Park Zoo visit, June 12th is Absolute Science, June 19th is magician David Casas, and June 26th is musician Duke Otherwise.
To get a full list of events, stop by the library and register for summer reading and pick up a calendar.
