Libraries may call to mind stacks of books and quiet spaces, but one area library stands to prove it can be a vibrant focal point to a community.
This week is National Library Week, and Wellman-Scofield Library Director Carol Wilkins shares what they have in store, “Well, we are having the Mid-Prairie West school, which is the third and fourth graders and kindergarten and preschoolers, they are coming down to the library to have a little library visit. The older kids, the third and fourth graders, will be playing bingo with me to see how much they know about libraries. And then the younger kids we have just a little go-and-find something in the library, and then I read them a story and then they get a chance to ask me anything they want.”
Wilkins points out that a library is not just a place to check out books and be quiet, as the Wellman-Scofield Library has expanded their services and programming in recent years. They hold frequent movie parties and activities for children, as well as a monthly program to teach senior citizens how to use smartphone or tablet devices.
