One of the biggest track meets in the state of Iowa is scheduled for tonight at Case Field in Washington with the Demon Co-Ed Relays.
Area schools in attendance include the Demons, Columbus, Highland, and WACO boys and girls along with the Mid-Prairie and Winfield-Mt. Union boys.
The Washington boys were last in action a week ago in Mount Pleasant. Washington was led by Ethan Hunt as a runner-up in the 400 and the sprint medley team of Mario Tapia, Tanner Murphy, Sawyer Whisler and Hunt were also runners-up.
The Washington girls were also at Mount Pleasant where Ashley Telleen scored the team’s lone title winning the 400 hurdles.
The Mid-Prairie boys also took to the track at Mount Pleasant last week, winning six event titles including Cary Schaefer in the 400, Peyton Miller in the 400 hurdles, Floyd Evans in the 1600, Kyle Miller in the high jump, the 4×800 team of Marshal Teets, Schaefer, Evans and Quinn Schmidt and the distance medley team of Terrhyn Jacoby, Miller, Zach Pettit and Schmidt.
The Columbus boys were last on the track at the Steve Roth Relays at Case Field. The Wildcats had three titles on the night with Tommy Pretz winning the long jump, Abel Mena the 400 hurdles and the shuttle hurdle team of Pretz, Mena, Chance Colby and Nick Hernandez won the title.
The Columbus girls will open up the outdoor season tonight. They were last in action at the Washington Demon Indoor meet at Cornell nearly a month ago. The Wildcats were led by Angie Byas who finished 17th in the long jump, 32nd in the 60m dash and 41st in the 200.
The Highland boys were last on the track at the Steve Roth Relays in Washington where their top finish came from the distance medley team of Jarett Brown, Samuel Davis, Mason McFarland and Mason Manley as runners-up.
The Highland girls ran at Mediapolis last week. The Huskies had one champion with Emily Yahnkee winning the long jump.
The WACO boys track team was last in action at Pekin last week. Colton Horak won the championship in the 110 hurdles
The WACO girls track team ran at West Burlington last week. Their top finishes included Molly McLaughlin 2nd in the 100 hurdles, runner up for Kaylee Shelman, Aubri Garnsey, Laney Graber and Grace Conwell in the 4×200 and a runner-up for the shuttle hurdle team of McLaughlin, Garnsey, Conwell and Graber.
The Winfield-Mt. Union boys were last in action a week ago at Danville. The Wolves won four titles including Brandon Snowden in the 100 and 200, BJ Rodgers in the long jump and Bryant Holtkamp in the discus.
This meet will also have several special events including Special Olympics athletes participating in a javelin throw, softball throw and 50m dash. It is also senior night for the Washington boys and girls who will be honored during the meet.
Other teams attending the meet include Dubuque Hempstead, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Iowa City City High, Iowa City Liberty, Mason City, Mount Pleasant, and Oskaloosa.
