The death of an infant in rural Washington County is under investigation.

According to the Washington County Communications Center, at 10:23 a.m. Saturday dispatch received a call that an infant had stopped breathing at a residence in rural Ainsworth. The infant was taken to Washington County Hospital and Clinics, where it was pronounced dead. The incident remains under investigation and an autopsy is being performed at the University of Iowa. Names of those involved have not been released.
