The Washington girls’ basketball team put up a hard fought battle with defending state champs North Scott on Saturday, but the Lancers were too much in the class 4A semifinal round winning 58-27.

The Demons went toe-to-toe with the Lancers in the first quarter with the game having six lead changes and North Scott having a slight 18-16 lead. In the second quarter the Lancers started to turn the Demons over and grew the lead to 31-18 at the break. Ball movement was spectacular for North Scott and they broke things open in the second half for the 31-point win. Rylie Rucker led the well-balanced North Scott attack with 16 points. Kira Ropp led Washington with six points and Sarah Nacos concluded her decorated career with five points.

The Demons closed the season with a 7-16 record and North Scott moves to 20-2 with a trip to the regional final against Fairfield tomorrow. Washington bids farewell to three seniors in Nacos, Morgan Brinning, and Brooke Stout.
