Iowa Mennonite got all they wanted Thursday in a district opener against eight seed Holy Trinity Catholic in Kalona, winning 56-49. The Crusaders made enough plays to hang around all night. IMS held a slim 17-14 lead after the first frame and trailed 27-26 at the half. Iowa Mennonite made their move in third quarter, putting together a 22-8 run that lasted the entire frame, keyed by the defense. HTC wouldn’t go away, in the game’s final two minutes they cut the deficit to one possession. Freshman Eli Ours put the game on ice for IMS with a three point play in the games final minute. Ours led IMS with 14, his brother Cole Ours had 13, Mitchell Schmeider finished with 11. With the win, IMS is now 19-3, they advance to the district semifinals Tuesday at Mount Pleasant against the Highland Huskies.
