The Washington wrestling team extended their season on Saturday, as they placed second at sectionals in front of their home crowd.
Washington was able to creep into the second spot out of six teams with 215 points. Centerville was on their heels most of the day and missed advancing by 13 points. West Liberty won the team title with 263 points. In addition to moving onto regional duals, Washington had eight wrestlers advance to districts on Saturday. The Demons had three top finishes on the day. Walker Ikerd won both of his matches at 120 lbs by an 18-3 technical fall and 9-2 decision. Tristin Westphal-Edwards was the champ at 170 lbs with a pair of falls in a combined 3:47. Tanner Murphy won at 220 lbs by a fall in 4:47 and a 7-0 decision. Other Demons that advanced to districts with a second place finish include Dillan Sanders at 132 lbs, Garrett Ikerd at 138 lbs, Collin Murphy at 182 lbs, Logan Escher at 195 lbs, and Mitchell Huisenga at 285 lbs.
The Golden Hawks were also in attendance placing sixth with 112 points. Mid-Prairie did not have anyone advance to districts but they had a pair of third place finishes from Vinnie Bowlin at 132 lbs and Isaac Boucher at 195 lbs. Fourth place finishes include Joe Allred at 152 lbs, Cory Allen at 170 lbs, and Colton Allen at 182 lbs.
The Demons advance to regional duals tomorrow when they travel to Davenport Assumption.
