The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls and boys basketball teams hosted Monticello Friday for a River Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Golden Hawk girls fell by a 71-52 score to the No. 10 ranked Panthers. The Hawks got out to a good start leading 17-16 after one and 32-27 at the half. Monticello turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, outscoring Mid-Prairie 21-9 in the third to take the lead for good. The Panthers outshot Mid-Prairie at the free throw line 38-7. Addie Rath led the Hawks with 19 points. Mid-Prairie is now 9-6 on the year.
The Mid-Prairie boys scored a 50-44 win over Monticello. The Panthers led 13-11 after one quarter but Mid-Prairie turned it on with a big 17-5 run that lasted the entire second frame to take a 28-18 lead at the half. The Hawks did enough over the final 16 minutes to hold off Monticello and take the win. Ryan Slabaugh led the way for Mid-Prairie with 16 points. The Golden Hawks are now 3-12 on the year.
