The Iowa Mennonite School boys’ basketball team welcomed Washington to town on Saturday for a non-conference matchup and took down the Demons 65-52.
Out of the gates it was the Demons that got out to a fast start with a 10-3 lead four minutes into the game. Iowa Mennonite got to work when they turned the Demons over with full court pressure and started to work the offense through Mitchell Schmieder. The senior had 18 points at the break and IMS led 35-32. The third quarter was back and forth with IMS holding the three point lead until Reggie Borntrager took over and managed 15 of his 23 points in the second half to help IMS pull away with the win. Schmeider finished with a game-high 25 points. Cade Hennigan led the Demons with 13 points and Jack Redlinger added 12. With the win IMS improves to 12-2 on the season and Washington falls to 4-8.
Iowa Mennonite will get back at it tomorrow traveling to Winfield-Mt. Union and the Demons host Ottumwa.
