The four-lane highway bypass interchange on Highways 61 and 92 has been constructed west of the All Veterans Memorial near Grandview, and the Louisa County Area Vietnam Veterans group is working with the Iowa Department of Transportation on new signage.

Memorial signs were previously located on Highway 61 in advance of the former four-way intersection with Highway 92. Now that Highway 61 is a four-lane road there are more restrictive standards the Department of Transportation must follow for signage.

According to Iowa DOT Traffic & Safety Director Steve Gent, they have been consulting with the veterans group on different options such as tourist-oriented directional signs (TODS). The group has submitted an application to the committee, which is comprised of representatives from the Iowa DOT, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Iowa Economic Development Authority. They proposed the signs be installed on Highway 61 at the at-grade intersection just south of Highway 92, and on 92 west of the 61 interchange. Another signage option is the county could authorize the placement of signs on private property informing travelers that a veteran’s memorial is located at the next exit.
