The Washington FFA chapter recently held a banquet, but it was different than most and taught attendees about hunger and global demographics.
At the Washington High School guests would draw a ticket to place them in a high-, middle-, or low-income tier and each level had a different meal associated with it. A fancy meal was served to the highest tier, the middle-income was a moderate meal, and the low-income had a meal of rice and water. The Hunger Banquet was set up by FFA members.
Money raised will go to creating sustainable agriculture development where people are living in poverty, including teaching people how to grow their own food, or resources so they can continue to grow crops and raise animals through Food Resource Bank. Washington FFA plans to offer the event to area organizations or businesses to teach the community about different living conditions around the world.
