The City of Kalona is asking for its residents input in updating the comprehensive plan.

The plan, which was originally adopted in 2007, includes a legal basis for land use regulation and a unified vision with goals for community growth, housing, economic development, and transportation among others. An updated draft of the plan is published on the city’s website with some changes, according to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, “Some of the things that we took off our list: we did the downtown streetscape project, we’re in the middle of a community center project, we’ve done streambank restoration, we are looking at improvements to our park, and so forth. So it allows us to step back and look at what we’ve done and what we haven’t done, and the things that we haven’t done where they rank priority-wise to the community.”

The city has begun hosting public meetings to gather input on the updated plan, with its adoption expected in early 2018.
