In their final contest before Christmas break a pair of KCII area teams square off tonight in Kalona when Iowa Mennonite School entertains Highland in a basketball doubleheader.
The IMS girls enter play tonight with an overall record of 1-5. In their last game they fell at Louisa-Muscatine Tuesday 54-46, despite 29 points from Suzanna Yoder. On the year, Yoder leads IMS scoring 18 points per game, fourth best in the Superconference. Her 25 assists are also a team best and seventh in the Superconference. Alyssa Hershberger leads IMS on the glass with 49 rebounds.
The Highland girls enter tonight with an overall record of 6-2 following a big rivalry game win Tuesday over Lone Tree 46-25. Aly Stokes went double double with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Huskies. On the year Stokes leads Highland at 14 points per game, seventh in the Superconference. Her 27 assists are best on the team and seventh in the league. She also leads the Huskies on the glass with 85 boards, second in the conference. These two teams met twice last season with the Huskies sweeping both games.
In the boys contest, IMS comes in with a 5-1 overall record. Last time out they beat Louisa-Muscatine 74-51, led by Mitchell Schmeider’s 19 points. On the year, Cole Ours leads IMS at 16 points per game, third in the Superconference. Caleb Gingerich has 37 assists, most on the team and second most in the conference. Mitchell Schmeider’s 45 rebounds are a team high and eighth in the conference.
Highland comes into tonight’s contest with an overall mark of 4-2. They were edged in overtime by Lone Tree Tuesday 56-55. On the season the Huskies are led by Zack Lasek averaging 20 points per game, second most in the Superconference. His 49 rebounds are best on the team and sixth in the league. Trey Lasek has a team best 37 assists, second most in conference. These two teams met twice a season ago with the Huskies sweeping the season set.
