It was a Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdown in Wayland on Saturday and the host Warriors took care of business in both contests over Winfield-Mt. Union.
In the girls’ game, the Warriors claimed an exciting 43-40 victory. After leading 13-11 after the first, a big second quarter was the difference in this one, as WACO outscored them by seven to take a 28-19 halftime lead. The Wolves chipped away at the lead in the second half, but came up short, as WACO held on for the win. Aubri Garnsey led the way for WACO with 12 points and Ashleigh Hallett had eight. Lexee Hartsock led the Wolves with 17 points. WACO moves to 3-5 after the win and the Wolves drop to 5-4.
In the boys’ game the Wolves hung around with the Warriors, as it was tied at half but a big second half propelled WACO to come out with a 54-36 win. The Warriors had three players in double figures led by Nik Coble with 17 points and 13 boards. BJ Rodgers had another productive night for WMU with 11 points. The Warriors move to 3-4, as the Wolves drop to 1-7.
WACO gets back on the court tomorrow traveling to West Burlington and Winfield-Mt. Union makes the trip to Pekin.
