There will be icing, gum drops, candy canes and more for a new holiday contest coming to the Washington Public Library.

Debbie Stanton, director of the library, explains the gingerbread house decorating contest, “[It’s] kind of like our festival of pumpkins, because that’s so successful and people enjoy it so much Jenisa decided to do a gingerbread decorating contest. So it’s kind of the same thing, where you can do all of your decorating at home and then you just bring in the finished product. We will put them up on the shelves and people get to vote for their favorite gingerbread houses.” Voting will be held through December 20th. Librarian Jenisa Harris said the projects can be completed in groups or individually. The houses will be displayed the entire month of December and winners will be announced on December 27th. There are prize categories for children, teen, and adult.
