Influenza activity is low in Iowa at this time, but it is continuing to increase according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Three schools in Iowa reported 10% or greater absence due to illness within the last reporting week, including one in Johnson County. The geographic spread of influenza is sporadic. The State Hygienic Laboratory this week confirmed 18 influenza (H3), one influenza A (H1N1), and one influenza B virus from samples. The H1N1 variant was an adult with exposure to swine, no human to human transmission was identified with the case. Also, there were 12 influenza-related hospitalizations across the state.
