In it’s third year the Rock ‘N’ Ride in Washington raised $50,000.
All of that money will be donated to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa for research. This year’s event was held in honor of the late Perry Rich who passed way from brain cancer. His brother, Neil Rich said, “[He] passed away from brain cancer. We’re good friends of Dave Friese and he wanted to bring us into the Rock ‘N’ Ride family, so to speak, and it was just a tremendous honor for us to honor our brother. In his fight against cancer he was really into the research end of it.”
He adds that he plans on taking part in the event in the future, “We plan on continuing it. I’m sure there’ll be new faces every year as we try to expand it and raise as much money as possible. There’s a lot of people who spoke to me after the event, and with a lot of donations you never really necessarily know specifically where your donation is going to go and that’s kind of the special thing with the Holden Center. They come back the next year and tell you exactly where those donations went and what progress they’re making up there and it’s just a great, great place, and it’s a local place to kind of see our donations in action.”
In it’s three years, the Rock ‘N’ Ride bicycle ride, 5k run, and banquet has raised and donated $158,000 to cancer research.
