With the holiday shopping season approaching, several Kalona area businesses are encouraging residents to “squirrel away” some stuff during their “Nuttin’ But Fun” event this weekend.
Fifteen Kalona businesses are participating this Thursday through Saturday with shops staying open until 8 p.m. Participants can pick up a punch card at any business that has a squirrel sign posted out front, and they must visit at least eight businesses to be eligible to win prize baskets.
Event organizer Kris Lyle says the purpose of the event is to increase awareness of the local commerce, “We could never afford to have this many shops in town if we didn’t have the backing of local people, who like to shop not at a big box store but enjoy seeing unique products in these little mom and pop shops.”
A list of businesses participating in “Nuttin’ But Fun” can be found on the Kalona Chamber of Commerce website.
