Following the retirement of the district’s driver’s education teacher Mid-Prairie has decided to contract out their program with Open Road Driving School.

Superintendent Mark Schneider recommended Open Road Driving School to the school board at their recent meeting, providing an agreement, references and prices to the board. Schneider says some Mid-Prairie students have already used the program, “Between Christmas break last year through summer 2017, even though we had not contracted through Open Road Driving School, we’ve already had 50 students that have used them for their driver education. So it’s a very popular company amongst our students already.”

Schneider says students will be able to attend any of the driving school’s class locations. The school has eight locations including Washington, Sigourney, Mount Pleasant, and Coralville. The district is still responsible to assist students on free and reduced lunch with the fees to enroll in the program, at a cost of $370 per student.
