Smaller enrollment for the Highland Community School District will mean a decrease in their general fund.

At the school board meeting October 9, Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen presented preliminary enrollment numbers saying there is a decrease of 39 students. He said this could amount in a reduction of funding of $261,000 in the general fund for Highland. The certified enrollment numbers as of October 15 show a 38 student decrease in the total number of pupils in the district, from 622 previously to 584 this year. The number of resident students attending the district is 507, down from 527 last year. The amount of resident students choosing to attend another district is 110.2 this year, up nearly eight students from the previous year. There are fewer non-resident students open enrolling into Highland, with 77 students compared to last year’s 95.
