The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team returns home tonight to take on the Mount Vernon Mustangs for their 2017 Homecoming contest.

Mid-Prairie enters play with a 1-2 overall record on the season after falling to West Liberty 34-3 last Friday in their district opener on the road. The Golden Hawks were led in the contest by Keaton Duwa who went over the century mark on the ground for the second straight week with 146 yards on 19 carries. It was a game that saw Mid-Prairie hang tough, with the score at just 6-3 in West Liberty’s favor midway through the third quarter.

On the season the Golden Hawks are led by Karson Gingerich at the quarterback spot who is 14 of 20 for 204 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Gingerich suffered an injury against the Washington Demons in week two and was not active in last week’s matchup with the Comets. Brad Tornow got his first varsity start a week ago and finished six of 13 for 42 yards and an interception. Justin Schwartz is the favorite target of the passing game with 14 grabs for 210 yards and a touchdown. On the ground Duwa has 51 carries for 317 yards and three touchdowns. Duwa also leads the Hawks defensively with 17 total tackles. Jason Tew has the team lead with 1.5 tackles for loss.

Mount Vernon enters tonight’s action ranked No. 5 in the state in class 2A in the latest poll from the Associated Press. The Mustangs opened district play by throttling Camanche 69-0, racking up 470 total yards. Drew Adams led the way, going 11 of 19 through the air for 108 yards and six touchdowns. Seven different Mustangs found the end zone in the win. On the season Adams is 51 of 88 for 535 yards. His eight touchdowns are fourth most in class 2A. Cale Snedden is Adam’s favorite target with 15 catches for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Colden Clark and Paul Ryan lead the Mount Vernon ground attack with a combined 63 carries for 554 yards and four touchdowns. Clark is also the leading tackler for the Mustangs with 18 stops on the year.
