Well #6 for the City of Washington has been undergoing upgrades and repairs and a change order more than $60,000 was approved by the city council Tuesday.
The total increase was $63,211.65. The changes included a smaller casing which was about $9,000 but then more grout was needed for about $14,000. Also, the acidization treatment the council previously approved was included in this cost, as well as a larger motor. City Administrator Brent Hinson said there is a silver lining, as output has gone from about 300 gallons per minute to about 650 gallons per minute. However, the water’s PH level is too low and not yet usable, as the system still has to be flushed following the acid treatment. The treatment was done nearly a month ago.
