After falling just short of a playoff appearance in 2016, the Washington football team is primed for another deep postseason run as the season turns to fall.
Last year, the Demons went 6-3 on a year where they lost 17 seniors to graduation. Offensively the Demons bring back some experience at the skills position for the up-tempo offense. Senior veteran Ryan Reighard returns for his third year as play caller for the Demons. The dual-threat quarterback racked up 906 yards through the air and 1,025 yards on the ground with a combined 21 touchdowns as a junior. Jack Redlinger will provide a great compliment to Reighard in the backfield, rushing for 592 yards and four touchdowns last year. Athletic senior Jaivonn Willis will allow the Demons to stretch the field, returning as the leading receiver last year with 462 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively the Demons will have to reload, losing much of their front seven. Tanner Murphy is the top returner on the defense managing 54 tackles and five sacks last year.
The Demons will host the annual Gatorade scrimmage Friday against Muscatine. The season officially kicks off August 25th hosting Albia.
