Three director positions are open and only two official candidates are on the ballot for the Highland School Board election.

Rachel Longbine is seeking re-election for District 1, Megan Allen is seeking election for District 5, and District 3, which is currently served by President Kevin Engle, has no candidates filed. Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen explains, “There’s the possibility that there may be a write-in candidate. So when the vote is completed we will approach the person who has the most write-in votes and we will ask them if they have an interest in serving on the board and they certainly have the right to decline or accept. If they decline then at that point in time the board has the option of appointing someone from that district until the next regular election.”

The school board election takes place September 12.
