Women who are interested in visiting area farms and learning more about managing at-farm risks are welcome to join Henry County Extension for their Women in Ag Tour.
Agriculture and youth educator Darbee Wellman is leading this tour, “We’re focusing on risk-management factors. So we’re hoping that the ladies will leave with maybe some best practices. Or some farms that we’re going to visit that will help to increase the safety of the farming situation and maybe take a little bit of the risk out of farming financially in terms of employee safety, different things like that.”
The tour begins at Beck’s Hybrid Plant in Mount Pleasant for a tour of the seed plant operations and will end at JWV Pork, a four-generation family hog operation near Washington. That stop will have an increased focus on safety with a speaker who will talk about surviving falling into a hog pit. The day-long event is open for any woman who is involved or interested in agriculture.
