A food pantry on wheels will be rolling into Washington and Brighton on Thursday.

The mobile food pantry comes to the area the first Thursday every month. Administrator of Washington County Public Health encourages area residents to bring some bags, stop by, and fill them up, “It is an excellent resource. It’s a new resource in the community. We really want people to take advantage of it. One in five people in the state of Iowa face hunger or food insecurity, and one in four children. So, we really want to combat that food insecurity and this is a great opportunity to do so.”

Vegetables, fruits, grains, protein and more are available and it varies each time the pantry comes to town. She adds if there’s food left over at the end of the time, people are invited to go through the line a second time.

The pantry will be in Brighton at 10:30 a.m. and in Washington 1-2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church parking lot. Income eligibility guidelines apply. It is presented in partnership by Alliant Energy, Feeding America, and the HACAP Food Reservoir.
