As market goers look to purchase fresh local vegetables and baked goods at the Washington Farmers’ Market Thursday they’ll likely pick up the scent of a special event.
The annual BBQ and Smoker Challenge is being held with food on plates for judges to taste by 5:30 p.m. All of the food is made on site. Market Master Bob Shepherd challenged area organizations to take part, including fire departments, commodities groups, and service organizations. It is also open to individuals. Entries in the past have included pizza on the grill, tofu, pork, chicken, vegetables and as long as it’s smoked or grilled it can be submitted. Samples from the contest for the public are encouraged. The market is open from 5-7 p.m. in Central Park every Thursday during the summer.
