For the first time in nearly a century, Iowa will be witness to most of a total eclipse of the sun.

On August 21st there will be a brief period of darkness during the day as the moon will pass in front of the sun. The Washington Free Public Library is going to be hosting an event in Central Park for the occasion, as librarian Leann Kunz explains they’re hosting a viewing party. They will distribute 200 special glasses so people can safely look at the event. Because the moon won’t completely block the sun, so there are special glasses to protect viewers’ eyes. She adds it happens to fall just a few days before Washington students return to classes for the 2017-2018 school year,”It’s kind of the summer celebration, learning, get excited about the eclipse activity, get the family out one more time for our last summer event.” Hear more about the eclipse with the Washington Page with Kunz at KCIIRadio.com.
