Today is Independence Day, in honor of July 4, 1776, when the Colonies’ Second Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On the one year anniversary Philadelphia hosted parades and fireworks to celebrate. Washington will be taking part in celebrations tonight with fireworks scheduled to be on display at dusk at the Washington County Fairgrounds while the KCII Big Red Radio plays patriotic music. Sunset will be at 8:52 p.m. Today many area businesses and offices are closed in honor of the holiday, including city halls, banks, court houses, and post offices.
