The Highland baseball and softball teams won by the slimmest of margins beating New London on Thursday with identical scores of 4-3.

In softball, it was the Tigers (6-6) that struck first plating two runs in the second inning. The experienced Huskies (10-2) chipped away at the lead and were down 3-2 going into the final inning. Highland once again found some late game magic to score a pair of runs to seal the 4-3 win. Murphy Beinhart led the way going 3-for-3 with a double and Aly Stokes had a pair of hits with a RBI. Megan Hoenig went seven innings in the circle giving up just one run on four hits allowed.

For the boys, they also had to use their experience to come from behind as New London (8-3) was up 2-0 after a pair of innings. Scoring four runs in the next three innings, highlighted by Josh Michel, is what propelled the Huskies (11-3) to the 4-3 win. Michel had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week Chase Rath added a pair of hits with a double and went six innings on the bump giving up two runs on six hits.

Both teams get back on the diamond today as baseball hosts Keokuk and the softball team travels to Des Moines East for a tournament.
