The Columbus Community and Winfield-Mt. Union baseball and softball teams battle on the diamond tonight in Winfield.
In softball the Wolves (4-5) will look to creep to the upper half of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, sitting at ninth out of the 15 teams. Hannah Mathews has led the WMU offense all season with a .423 BA with 5 RBI. Madie Anderson is a star in the making for the Wolves as she has a 1.58 ERA in 40 innings of work as an 8th grader. The Wildcats (0-14) will search for their first win tonight. Seniors Shania Boyd and Jayden Poehler have helped the young team along as they lead the team offensively with 13 hits.
For the boys, expect an evenly matched contest for two teams that are trying to improve off of last week wins. Columbus’ (1-9) Caleb McCullough has looked good offensively with a .429 BA and eight RBI to lead the Wildcats. Kleyton Benedict has done his part for the Wolves with a .400 BA and a RBI on the season.
Both games get started at 7 p.m. tonight at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
