The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team scored their first win of the season Thursday, knocking off the Cardinal Comets 10-2.

In the victory, WMU was led by Liana Sweezer who was three for four with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. The Wolves pounded out 12 hits at the plate as a team. In the circle Madie Anderson got the win, throwing all seven innings, giving up a pair of runs, two hits and striking out 12. The Wolves are 1-2 on the year coming into tonight’s match up with the Van Buren Warriors who are also 1-2 on the season. The Warriors lone win of the year also came Thursday 8-6 at Danville. Lexi Jirak led Van Buren at the plate, going three for four with a homer, triple, two driven in and three runs scored. Shayna Sprinkle got the win in the circle for the Warriors going six and a third innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, walking one and striking out three. Action begins tonight at 7p.m. in Winfield.
