If you were still thinking of reserving a spot to camp at the Lake Darling State Park during Memorial Day weekend, you’re out of luck.
Park ranger Zach Haworth comments on the upcoming week for Lake Darling, “Things are shaping up to be an extremely busy Memorial Day weekend. We don’t have any sites left that are reservable in the campground, those have all been reserved, so what we have left are some first-come-first-serve campsites. Those sites, in my experience, go very quickly leading up to the holiday weekend. My guess is we’ll probably fill up by Tuesday or Wednesday of that week leading up to the holiday. The campground I’m expecting to be full and the cabins are all booked up and full. So, I’m excited for the weekend to get here, now we just have to hope the forecast follows through and it should be an enjoyable one.”
Lake Darling State Park has some new improvements this summer. This year is the first for the modern four-season cabins in operation, and Haworth says the Friends of the Lake Darling State Park are installing donated benches, and they received a donation to build a new pedestrian bridge to improve trails for disabled people. Haworth says the campgrounds have increasingly been popular over the years, and he recommends people plan ahead to reserve camping spots in order to enjoy the park this summer.
