A trip to the blue oval in Des Moines is on the line as the Washington boys’ and girls’ track teams head to Mount Pleasant for districts.

In the eight-team meet the boys have a few events that could contend for a state berth. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Jake Reighard, Mario Tapia, Cade Hennigan, and Caleb Bex have posted the second best time of the participating schools with a tally of 1:02.56. Bex also has the third best time in the 110m hurdles, just behind the second place finisher by one-hundredth of a second. Other Demons to keep an eye on include the sprint medley relay team with the second best time and Ethan Hunt has the fourth best time in the 400m dash.

The girls are set up for success as they have many events that can qualify for state. Hannah Anderson is fresh off four conference titles last week and currently holds the top spot in the districts for long jump with a leap of 18’1’’ and a 100m dash with a time of 12.47 seconds. She also holds the second best time in the 200m and third in the 400m. Ashley Telleen has done some damage in the 400m hurdles, as she is currently the fourth best time out of the participating teams. Other events to look for are the 4×200 and 4×400 teams that each hold the second best times in the meet.

The top two finishers in each event will receive the automatic trip to the blue oval.

The meet gets started at 4 p.m. tonight at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex in Mount Pleasant.
