Mid-Prairie and Sigourney athletes are on the blue oval for competition at the Drake Relays in Des Moines.

Activity gets underway this afternoon at 4:30 when Levi Duwa of Mid-Prairie throws the shot put. Duwa recorded the eighth longest throw in the state this year at 58′.75”. Nick Phelps of Kingsley-Pierson Woodbury Central has the longest throw at 65’10.50”.

At 5 p.m. Summer Barthelman of Sigourney will be in the long jump event. Barthelman’s best was 17′.5”, 23rd in the state. Darby Thomas of Council Bluffs Lincoln has the best mark in the state for 2017 at 19’1.25”.

At 6:10 this evening Anna and Marie Hostetler of Mid-Prairie will be on the track for the 3000. Marie has posted the best time in the state this year at 10:03.20, Anna’s time is second best in the state at 10:06.08. Those times are at least 13 seconds better than any other time recorded in Iowa in 2017.
