The Washington Community School board approved the Fiscal Year 18 budget at Wednesday’s meeting and lowered taxes for residents of the district. The new tax rate per $1,000 taxable valuation is 15.87551. Superintendent Jeff Dicks spoke of the 2.5-cent lower rate, “It’s always good when you can maintain or decrease a little bit.” He added looking at the 10-year plan drops are expected, but Dicks added, “It is all driven by enrollment, because enrollment decreases make your levy work harder. And unsustainable funding from the department of education make your levy work harder.” The item passed unanimously.
