After over two years of discussions and several tabled resolutions, the City of Keota is moving forward with welcoming 2030, 2034, and 2038 Keokuk-Washington Road into city limits. The resolution approving the annexation of the properties was unanimously approved at the most recent Keota City Council meeting. The city was waiting for a 28E agreement to come in from Washington County for road maintenance, and though the council tabled the agreement so they could take a closer look at it, they felt it was enough to move the annexation process forward. City Clerk Niki Osweiler says the next step is to get the approval of Iowa’s City Development Board. She sent the annexation documentation to the state for review, and they are expected to approve it when they next convene. Once they get word from the state, the city will pass one last resolution and the process will conclude.
