If you have a green thumb and are looking for a way to volunteer locally, a Master Gardener program training is open for registration. The core training sessions will be held this fall at the Washington County Extension Office. No previous garden knowledge is required, as the program teaches volunteers about gardening best practices. Master Gardeners volunteer in their communities 20 hours each year. They’re also involved in 10 hours of continuing education annually. Last year, Master Gardeners across Iowa donated nearly 120,000 volunteer hours, the equivalent of $2.6 million in labor. To register locally contact the Extension office, fees are $195 and due September 1st.
