After difficult spring weather conditions stopped the Mid-Prairie boys track team’s two previous attempts at taking part in an outdoor meet, the Golden Hawks finally got to the track Friday night in Mount Pleasant for their first outdoor meet of the season.
Mid-Prairie crowned three event champions on the night. In his first athletic action since a football injury at Williamsburg, Golden Hawk senior Levi Duwa returned to dominate the competition in the shot put, winning the event by nearly six feet. Mid-Prairie’s other two titles came in relay events where the Hawks scored a win with the 4×800 team of Peyton Miller, Andrew Schwartz, Zach Pettit and Quinn Schmidt and their time of 8:28.17. Mid-Prairie’s 4×400 team was also a champion. The group of Miller, Cary Schaefer, Marshall Teets and Schmidt finished first in 3:36.05. Other top finishes for the Golden Hawks included the 800 sprint medley team of Schmidt, Grant Boyse, Terrhyn Jacoby and Schaefer finishing as runner-up, Floyd Evans was a runner-up in the 3200m, the Golden Hawk distance medley team of Jacoby, Schaefer, Boyse and Teets were runners up, Andrew Schwartz was runner up in the 400, and Miller was runner up in the 400 hurdles. The Golden Hawks will next be in action Monday when they travel to Williamsburg.
