Several KCII area boys track athletes claimed first place in events at Monday’s Falcon Relays hosted by West Burlington. The two-class meet featured teams from Washington, Central Lee, Columbus, Danville, Fort Madison, Highland, Keokuk, Mediapolis, Mount Pleasant, New London and Winfield-Mount Union (W-MU).
The Demons were paired in Class A and placed fourth out of six teams with 70 points. Mount Pleasant won the team title with a score of 235. Washington’s lone first place finish came in the 800 sprint medley. The crew of Sawyer Whisler, Kyle Dallmeyer, Tanner Murphy, and Ethan Hunt clocked a time of 1:41.82, edging Mount Pleasant by 60 milliseconds.
Columbus, Highland, and Winfield-Mount Union were all grouped in Class B. The Wildcats finished second overall with 136 points, W-MU placed fourth with 105 points, and Highland closed in sixth place with a score of 52. Mediapolis won the title with 193 points.
Columbus’ Nick Hernandez crossed the finish line first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.29, edging teammate Abel Mena by 80 milliseconds. The Wildcats’ 4×200 squad of Angel Hernandez, Danny Fuentes, Carter Colby, and Chance Colby won the event with a time of 1:41.63, topping the event by three-tenths of a second. Columbus’ final first place result came in the shuttle hurdle relay. The team of Tommie Pretz, Hernandez, Rueben Paz, and Carter Colby posted a time of 1:08.42, seven seconds better than the field.
W-MU’s Bryce Robison captured first place in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. His 100-meter sprint of 11.53 seconds with 150 milliseconds faster than the competition. Robison’s 200-meter result was clocked at 23.46 seconds, 270 milliseconds better than the field. Brock Fricke placed first for the Wolves in the 3200 meter run. His two mile time of 11:19.66 topped the competition by 11 seconds.
In the long jump competition, Bill Burton recorded his only first place finish for Highland. Burton’s best leap of 19’4.75″ was 1.75 inches farther than field.
