Last week, as part of the festivities at the 2017 Iowa boys basketball state tournament, former Mid-Prairie and Lone Tree head boys basketball coach Don Showalter was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Coaches Hall of Fame.

Showalter made an appearance in the state tournament in 1970 for the Golden Hawks as a player, leading Mid-Prairie to a runner-up finish. As a coach he reached the state tournament in Des Moines six more times, the first in 1982 with Central Elkader and five times with Mid-Prairie 1996, 1997, 2005, 2007, and 2010, including a runner-up finish in 2007. In his 28 years as Mid-Prairie head coach he finished with an overall record of 446-202. In his two seasons with Lone Tree he had an overall record of 8-29. He is 12th on the all-time coaches win list with an overall record of 601-346 over 42 seasons.
