The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team took a big step forward in the 2016-17 season in building a foundation for the program.

Mid-Prairie finished the year with seven victories, the most since 2013-14. The Golden Hawks finished with a 5-13 mark in the River Valley Conference, finishing in sixth place.

Offensively, the Golden Hawks shot 39% from the floor, sixth in league play. Mid-Prairie was fourth in the RVC from behind the arc, hitting at a 31% clip. The Golden Hawks were fourth in total offense, scoring 53 points per game. Mid-Prairie was second in the conference on the glass pulling in 667 rebounds. They led the conference with 82 blocked shots. They were fifth in the RVC in scoring defense, surrendering 52 points per game.

Individually, Mid-Prairie was led on the year by Caleb Statler, averaging nine points per game. Statler also pulled in a team best 121 rebounds, ninth in the RVC and blocked 50 shots, best in the conference and eighth most in the state. Freshman Brad Tornow led the Golden Hawks with 71 assists, third most in the River Valley Conference.

Statler and Derek Rich were All-South Division River Valley Conference team selections. Carter Reinier was an honorable mention all-conference selection. The Golden Hawks lose Statler, Rich and Reinier to graduation. Mid-Prairie ended the season with a 7-17 overall record.
