A rematch awaits the Lone Tree Lions boys’ basketball team (17-5) tonight in the Class 1A district tournament. Lone Tree is set to host the Lisbon Lions (15-7) in the semifinal round. Lisbon won the regular season battle in January, 54-51.
Lone Tree opened the district tournament last Thursday with an 83-44 victory at home against HLV. Four Lions players recorded double-digit points. Niko Gosnell scored a game-high 21 points. Michael Schmidt recorded 17 points, Dawson Swails added 16 off the bench, and Jovonte Squiers contributed 12 points. Lone Tree enters tonight’s semifinal round winning of six of their last eight contests. Lone Tree made only one of 14 three-point attempts during their loss to Lisbon on January 5, but sunk six of them in their most recent game.
Lisbon brings a seven-game winning streak into tonight’s semifinal battle. The Lions needed overtime to defeat the Alburnett Pirates (12-10), with a final score of 66-60. Bailey Arwine scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out five assists in the victory. Arwine recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds against Lone Tree in the regular season.
