For a second straight year, the No. 6 Washington Demon wrestling team (28-1) will compete in the Class 2A state dual tournament in Des Moines.. The Demons open the tournament at Wells Fargo Arena today in the quarterfinal round against the No. 3 Atlantic Trojans (19-0). Washington will compete in three duals total.

The Demons advanced to state duals after a pair of victories last week during the regional dual tournament at Washington High School. Washington defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the semifinals (28-4), 57-21, to set up a championship rematch versus Williamsburg (21-5). Washington, who suffered their only loss of the season to Williamsburg on January 26 (31-24), ended the Raiders’ dual season with a 36-24 triumph.

The Atlantic/CAM Trojans enter state duals undefeated in 19 matches.

The winner will advance to the semifinals against the winner of No. 2 Solon versus No. 7 Sergeant Bluff-Luton at 1 p.m. The losers will square off against each other at 11 a.m. in the consolation semifinals. The fifth and seventh place matches will take place at 4:30 p.m. The championship and third place grapples will commence at 6:30 p.m. KCII Sports will have live play-by-play coverage of Washington’s three duals starting with the predual show at 8 a.m. on AM/FM KCII.
