The postseason basketball tournament begins tonight for girls’ basketball teams. The Lone Tree Lady Lions (16-5) will host the Keota Eagles (0-21) in the opener of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament. The Lady Lions upended the Eagles on November 28, 41-14.

Lone Tree winning 16 of their 21 games this winter has been due to their defensive play. The Lady Lions rank second in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North in points allowed at 36.6 points per game. Madison Forbes leads the Lady Lions with 365 points scored. Elena Sieverding, KCII’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week on November 30, tops the squad with 125 rebounds, 65 assists, 68 steals, and 23 blocks. She recorded 10 points and 10 steals versus Keota in November.

The Keota Eagles enter the postseason winless in 21 games. Sisters Addison and Raigan Sprouse have combined to score 297 of the team’s 474 points this winter. Addison Sprouse leads the squad with 125 rebounds, 52 assists, 47 steals, and 16 blocks. Erin Chalupa recorded six points and five rebounds in the first meeting versus Lone Tree.
