In August, the Riverside Volunteer Fire Department decided to sell two of their older trucks, though they haven’t had any luck so far. According to Fire Chief Chad Smothers, “We’re still kind of in the early stages. We’re trying to sell two older vehicles. We would use that money to go towards a new grass truck. The vehicles are still for sale. We haven’t had a lot of interest in them yet, but hopefully they’ll fit somebody’s needs.” The trucks they are attempting to sell are from 1983 and 1990, and the money they get for them would go towards the estimated $45,000 it would cost for a grass fire truck chassis. Smothers says the sale of the older trucks, combined with the fire department’s fundraising efforts, would mean they wouldn’t have to use any tax dollars to purchase the new vehicle.
