Long-range shooting contributed to the latest setbacks for the Washington Demon basketball teams. As heard live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons traveled to Ottumwa last night for a non-conference doubleheader against the Bulldogs. Washington returned home with a pair of losses.

The girls game saw Washington fall to Ottumwa, 46-28. Kacy Nickerson and Jada Schrage combined to score 27 points for Ottumwa, including seven three-point baskets. Washington’s Sarah Nacos had a team-best 10 points while Brooke Stout had a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss. The loss drops Washington’s overall record to 3-10.

Ottumwa completed the sweep of Washington by winning the boys contest, 71-56. The Bulldog connected on nine made three-pointers, five by Trey Thomas. Jaivonn Willis scored eight of his game-high 16 points in the opening quarter. The setback pushes Washington’s record to 3-9 overall.

Washington returns to the floor Friday hosting the Keokuk Chiefs in a pair of Southeast Conference games.
