Another weekend test awaits the No. 5 Washington Demon wrestling team (20-0) today. The squad travels to East Marshall High School for the school’s annual dual tournament. The field includes wrestlers from AGWSR, Beckman Catholic, Benton, East Marshall, Independence, Sigourney-Keota, South Tama, Union La Porte City, and West Marshall. Washington head coach Brent Van Weelden said, the Demons are grouped in a pool with Benton, Union La Porte City, and South Tama. The top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals.

The Predicament and IAwrestle released their latest individual rankings this week and both publications have multiple Washington wrestlers in their top 10. The Predicament has seven Washington wrestlers rated in Class 2A including: Walker Ikerd (No. 9-106), Kyle Anderson (No. 7-126), Andrew Waite (No. 10-138), Austin Hazelett (No. 6-145), Trey Van Weelden (No. 8-152), Tristin Westphal-Edwards (No. 6-160), and Karlton Skubal (No. 5-195). They also graded Washington as the 10th best team in the state. IAwrestle recognized five Demon wrestlers in their rankings including Ikerd (No. 9-106), Anderson (No. 7-126), Van Weelden (No. 4-152), Westphal-Edwards (No. 6-160), and Skubal (No. 5-195). Washington sits at No. 5 in the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association rankings.

Washington enters competition today undefeated in 20 dual matches and is the reigning East Marshall Duals champions. The tournament will commence at 9 a.m. at East Marshall High School in Le Grand.
