Washington girls’ basketball coach Jordan Bentley has been looking forward to today’s non-conference game for a while. The Demon girls’ basketball team (2-7) is traveling to Oskaloosa High School for a non-conference tilt versus the Indians (2-8). The teams met in the first round of last year’s Class 4A regional tournament with Oskaloosa edging Washington, 36-34.
Washington returns to the floor after eight days off. The Demons are coming off a 48-35 loss at the hands of Mount Pleasant (6-5). Sarah Nacos led Washington with 13 points. The Demons are looking to get off to better starts in games, ranking last in the Southeast Conference with 76 first quarter points scored. Nacos continues to lead the league in three-point shots made with 24.
Oskaloosa enters today’s game looking to erase a seven-game losing streak. Their last victory came on December 3, defeating the Knoxville Panthers (4-6), 46-36. Alexis Westerkamp leads the Indians with 138 points, 77 rebounds, and eight blocks. She scored a game-high 16 points and brought down nine rebounds in last year’s postseason victory over Washington.
The varsity girls game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. at Oskaloosa High School.
